Footnotes

But can one have a permanent image of change? The problem is one that has fascinated philosophers and poets as long as language has been able to distinguish the two concepts, but it has troubled architectural theory only since the Futurists at the beginning of the present century decided to celebrate the impermanence of technology. On the whole, the response has been to design permanent statues to ideas of impermanence, but Piano+Rogers have gone further beyond thatimpermanence, in the sense of adaptability, applies to everything except the most massive members of the structure. ➡︎
